The Video Game Industry is Growing Faster than US Economy

by GH Staff

Despite recent disruptive events in the video game industry, we still seem to be growing faster than the United States Economy.

Ain’t that something.

According to a recent report from the Entertainment Software Association, the video game industry is currently experiencing growth about four times the magnitude of the United States economy.

Moreover, the rate of growth of new jobs from 2009-2012 in the video game industry was somewhere around 9 percent. Essentially, for every 10 jobs that already existed in the industry, one more was added over the course of 3 years.

This also happens to be close to 13 times more job growth than the United States economy, which was about .72 percent.

I don’t know whether to be surprised, sarcastic, or scared. I mean, yay, I get more traffic, but my country is also doing worse than the video game industry, the guys who I come online to mercilessly bash almost every day.

I mean, my God, if just this one facet of the world economy has sustained me this long, just imagine how efficiently I could ride the coattails of the ENTIRE economy’s blunders!

The answer: just about 15 years.
