Video Game Releases for the Week of 10/13/2014

The Evil Within Debug Console Commands

October is still going strong with 20 games launching this week across all major platforms. This week, you’ll be able to shoot your way through the moon of Pandora in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, explore the madness of The Evil Within, play Minecraft on-the-go, and revisit Hong Kong in HD with Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition. Also, there is a vast array of digital titles such as In Space We Brawl, Nidhogg, Legend of Grimrock 2, and Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut launching this week as well. All in all, it’s another huge week for gaming.

Note: All of the dates and prices listed below are for North American territories. Also, keep in mind that this list is subject to change with new games potentially announced or launching this week without notice.


 

Tuesday October 14, 2014:

  • Best of Board Games

Platforms: PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita (Digital Only on Both Platforms)

Price: $TBD

In this compilation of Chess, Mah-jong and Solitaire, you’ll be able to rediscover these three classic board games with a variety of settings.

 

  • Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

Price: $59.99

It has been two years since the last Borderlands game, and Gearbox is bringing back its popular First-Person Shooter RPG with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel; a new story set between the events of the first and second games. This time around, players will not play as Vault Hunters, but as Handsome Jack’s, Borderlands 2’s main villain, henchmen on Pandora’s moon Elpis. Get ready for some low-gravity combat scenarios and crazy loot hunting as Athena, Nisha, Claptrap, or Wilhelm. Be on the lookout for our review of The Pre-Sequel in the coming days.

 

  • Duck Dynasty

Prices: $49.99 for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 Versions, $39.99 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 Versions, $29.99 for the 3DS Version

Based on the popular reality TV show of the same name, Duck Dynasty will put players in the shoes of the Robertson family as they participate in many activities such as airboat racing, duck shooting galleries and much more.

 

  • In Space We Brawl

Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 (Digital Only on Both Platforms)

Price: $11.99 (+ A 20% Discount for PlayStation Plus Members) – (Cross-Buy)

In Space We Brawl is a four-player Twin Stick Shooter that focuses on skill, fun and competition. Players will be able to customize their ship to their liking and engage in epic dogfights. Additionally, the game supports cross-buy, meaning you’ll only have to buy it once to play it on your PS3 and PS4.

 

  • Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut

Platforms: PlayStation 4 (Wii U Version Available October 16) – (Digital Only on Both Platforms)

Price: $9.99

Two years after its original debut on PC, Superflat Games is bringing the critically acclaimed 2D survival horror game, Lone Survivor, to the PlayStation 4 with The Director’s Cut. As a man in a surgical mask, you must survive through a post-apocalyptic world by exploring and scavenging the areas near him. The Director’s Cut of Lone Survivor adds a New Game Plus mode, which adds new dialogue, puzzles, items and even a brand new ending. Take note that the Wii U version of Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut will release on the eShop this Thursday, October 16.

 

  • Minecraft

Platform: PlayStation Vita (Digital First, Retail Version on November 11)

Price: $19.99 (Cross-Buy with PlayStation 3)

Despite being a Microsoft property, Minecraft is finally hitting Sony’s handheld after months of anticipation. Though it will only be distributed digitally, it is cross-buy with the PlayStation 3 version only and will allow you to transfer your PS3 save file to the Vita. Players who purchase Minecraft on PS Vita/PS3 will also be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version of Minecraft for $4.99.

 

  • Nidhogg

Platform: PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita (Digital Only on Both Platforms)

Price: $14.99 (Cross-Buy)

Nidhogg is a very simplistic, yet fast-paced two-player dueling game where the players fight with swords in a side-scrolling environment. The game basically works like tug-of-war where you must reach the end of the screen before your opponent.  The player who reaches it first wins. Players will be able to take on their opponents in Single-Player, Online Multiplayer and Local Multiplayer.

 

  • Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2

Platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Wii U, 3DS

Prices: $39.99 for the Console Versions, $29.99 for the 3DS Version

Pac-Man is back, but not in its traditional arcade form with Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2. The sequel to last year’s original Ghostly Adventures features a brand new story line where Pac must save PacWorld from the hands of Betrayus, new characters and new set of worlds to explore.

 

  • Peggle 2

Platform: PlayStation 4

Price: $TBD

Nearly a year after its original debut on Xbox One, Peggle 2, the popular puzzle game from PopCap, is finally making its way to the PlayStation 4 this week. Though it is essentially the same game as the Xbox One version, PlayStation users will be able to strike pegs all over their screens for hours on end.

 

  • Petz Beach & Petz Countryside

Platform: 3DS

Price: $29.99 Each

If taking care of real-life pets is too hard for you, then you’re in luck because Ubisoft is bringing two Petz game to the 3DS this week to satisfy your animal-loving needs. Petz Beach & Petz Countryside feature 50 different types of animals as well as various environments. There is also the option to use the 3DS’ Streetpass to connect with other Petz owners.

 

  • Poptropica: Forgotten Islands

Platform: 3DS

Price: $29.99

Based on the popular kids’ series, Poptropica: Forgotten Islands is an adventure that makes the player explore and discover the secrets of the mysterious islands. Mini-games, challenges and new areas will be unlocked, but, most importantly, the game will increase kids’ literacy and problem solving capabilities.

 

  • Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus

Platform: PlayStation Vita

Price: $49.99

A follow-up to Senran Kagura: Burst, Shinovi Versus switches up the side-scrolling beat-em-up game by turning it into a full-fledge 3D experience. With over 20 characters to choose from, players will be able to take on the 100 missions, or simply enjoy the 4-player Multiplayer that the game offers as well.

 

 

  • Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

Price: $59.99 (+ A 10% Discount for PlayStation Plus Members)

Two years after its original debut, Sleeping Dogs is heading to the next gen platforms as the Definitive Edition. This remastered version of the Open World Action-Adventure title runs at a native 1080p resolution and features many graphical improvements as well as gameplay tweaks. It will also have all of the original game’s DLC, including the story-based expansions Nightmare in North Point, Zodiac Tournament and Year of the Snake.

 

  • Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overworld

Price: $39.99

Based off the popular anime and manga series, Tear to Tiara II: Heir of the Overworld is a Strategy RPG that tells the tale of Hamilcar Barca, a young man who has been enslaved by an empire. It includes over 80 hours of gameplay, so, if you are a fan of long Role-Playing experiences, you should definitely check this title out.

 

  • The Evil Within

Price: $59.99

The Evil Within is the latest game from the Resident Evil Creator Shinji Mikami. In this Third-Person Survival Horror game, you play as Sebastian Castellanos who finds himself in a deranged world after he is knocked unconscious. The player will have to go through unimaginable terror, fighting many enemies that are sure to give quite the scare. Look out for our review of The Evil Within later this week.

 

  • The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season

Price: $29.99

With Season Two of Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead episodic series having just ended a couple of months ago,  the developer is bringing the critically acclaimed first season of the Adventure title based on Robert Kirkman’s popular comics to the next gen platforms for the first time. In addition to the five episodes included in Season One, players will receive the 400 Days DLC, which is set after the events of Season One and introduces a brand new set of survivors.


 Wednesday October 15, 2014:

 

  • Killer Instinct – Season Two

Prices: $39.99 for the Ultra Edition, $19.99 for the Combo Breaker Edition

Fans of Killer Instinct, rejoice because Season Two of the popular Xbox One fighting game is hitting the console this Wednesday. Both the Ultra Edition and Combo Breaker Edition of KI feature 8 new fighters, but the Ultra Edition gives you additional costumes, accessories and Killer Instinct Classic 2, which will support Multiplayer via Xbox Live.

 

  • Legend of Grimrock 2

Price: $20.39 for the Standard Game (15% Pre-Purchase Discount), $25.49 for the Bundle (15% Pre-Purchase Discount)

Legend of Grimrock 2 is the sequel to the dungeon-crawling RPG experience Legend of Grimrock. With over 20 hours of gameplay, Almost Human Games’ title will put players on the Isle of Nex where they will have to explore, survive and solve a wide variety of puzzles. Additionally, if you purchase the Legend of Grimrock 2 Bundle, you’ll receive the original Legend of Grimrock as well.


Thursday October 16, 2014:

 

  • Paper Monster Recut

Price: $7.99

Paper Monster has been completely remade for the Wii U as Paper Monster Recut. This version of the successful side-scrolling Adventure game features brand new levels, redesigned levels, space levels, more power-ups and bad guys, and a multitude of tweaks to the game’s graphical fidelity.


Friday October 17, 2014:

 

  • F.E.A.R. Online

Platform: PC

Price: Free-to-Play

F.E.A.R. Online is a Free-to-Play Multiplayer Game set in the F.E.A.R. universe. Though it is has been in Open Beta for a while now, it will officially release this week via Steam. It features a 4-player co-op story mode as well as single-player, with the PvP modes Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Horror and Soul King.
