War Thunder – 1.37 patch brings massive changes

by GH Staff

War Thunder, Gaijin’s popular free to play WW II (and Cold-War era) flight combat online game is receiving a major patch with the 1.37 version of the game. Don’t be fooled by the uneven number, this is a major patch that does more than just fix some minor bugs.

First, the new patch will be introducing DX11 support, which means better looking terrain, landscape and general visuals, as well as an increase in performance on some GPU’s. In addition, the game brings changes to the UI and menu screen and an all-new reworked progression system. The developers stated that this was indeed the progression system they initially had in mind, but they required a vast amount of available planes before they could efficiently implement it. And there’s certainly diversity when it comes to planes, especially since the patch will introduce several new models for each individual faction.

There are also balancing changes coming in, with a stronger emphasis on bomber and attacker planes. Expect to see some heavy artillery mounted on some of the new planes, as well as maps that are designed to give heavier and less maneuverable planes a much needed edge. New maps for various game modes and a new custom game system is also included in the patch.

The devs have also put together a detailed video about the changes coming up:
