Ubisoft Montreal’s Jonathan Morin has been very active on Twitter lately. With tons of rumors swirling around Watch Dogs, he clarified his position on some of the contentious hot-button issues:
Game Length
@vytla102 I would say the average player which does free roam a bit tend to reach the end within 35-40h. But doing everything is close 100h.

That seems like quite a gap to me, but I can definitely see the game being fun for quite a few hours. You can interact with basically every NPC in the game, so I am sure there is quite a lot of stuff to do in the open-world version of Chicago. There is also the multiplayer aspect of the game, which I am sure can get an average gamer’s total up to the 40+ hour mark.
Downgrade Controversy
@vytla102 Guys… Trailer wasn't a good GFX ref. E3 2012 was PC as we always said and E3 2013 is PS4 reference. Was always the case…

@Halfblood17 We are not making demos every day :) But you will see PC HD footage again yes…

@egor125ten @SwedishOTAKU PC on very high setting is REALLY stunning if you ask me. As for density it also very high of course.

These are just a few. Most of his Twitter account, and most of the internet chatter about Watch Dogs for that matter, deals with this subject matter. He also explained that the “game trailer pipeline” is complicated, which leads me to believe that he didn’t have much or any say in what the story trailer looked like. Morin and his team is very clearly focused on the gameplay features and creativity, but a polished new trailer would help all involved.
The promise of a future demo with cranked PC settings is the most important statement here. Watch Dogs desperately NEEDS this in order to silence the gossip taking place on every corner of the internet. Sure, some console gamers will complain “what about my shiny new PS4,” and that has some merit. However, as an avid console gamer myself, I know that the graphics ceiling will always be way higher on the PC. I want to see what the game looks like at its absolute maximum graphics yield. Morin leaked the minimum PC settings a few days ago, but has since clarified that he spoke out of turn. Nothing is finalized yet.
Regardless, here they are:
Processor: IntelCore 2 Quad Q8400 2.66Ghz or AMDPhenom II X4 940 3.0Ghz
Memory: 6GB RAM
Video Card: 1024 VRAM DirectX 11 Shader 5.0
Sound Card: DirectX9
Hard Drive Space: 25 GB
These are just a few of his Twitter comments. He also mentions what kind of weather will be in the game, the Notoriety stat, and that more information on multiplayer will be coming soon.
Inevitably, a someone asked him about Infamous: Second Son…
@y2200 Yes I saw. Looks nice. I'm looking forward to play it. I'm curious to see how alive the world is, so if you see let me know…
— Jonathan Morin (@Design_Cave) March 15, 2014
@y2200 Yeah it looks good, but what I want to know is how open and how alive it is as well. Will definitely play it.

There is no denying the way Infamous looks. Trying to poke holes in that would be futile. Morin once again rests on the laurels of gameplay, creativity, and freedom over looks. I don’t want to jump to any other crazy conclusions about this. We don’t KNOW anything for sure yet. Watch Dogs could look better.
I think people forget that video game professionals love video games. They like to play games even if those games are their direct competition. It is perfectly alright for people to answer questions honestly. I think Infamous and Watch Dogs have really similar concepts, and many people will probably end up buying both.
If anyone has any questions about the game, I would suggest shooting Jonathan Morin a Tweet. It is refreshing to see a huge game’s director make himself available like this.
Watch Dogs will release on all major consoles and the PC on May 27 (for real this time)
