The creator of the improved graphics mod for Watch Dogs on the PC has released its final update today.
TheWorse Mod was created in order to highlight/enhance the graphics that were already previously encoded in Watch Dogs. They were made inaccessible during the launch of the game, but remained dormant in coding. When word had got around to developers of Watch Dogs, Ubisoft claimed that these graphical settings were inactive in programming simply because they gamer would potentially experience performance issues.
We test and optimize our games for each platform on which they’re released, striving for the best possible quality. The PC version does indeed contain some old, unused render settings that were deactivated for a variety of reasons, including possible impacts on visual fidelity, stability, performance and overall game play quality.
Now, knowing that as a video game company hoping to release their game to critical success, you’d think the consumer would want a completed game? It seems Watch Dogs has also followed the trend of not being a fully realized game until later in the process when bugs start to come up. These huge AAA games get away with not being a fully completed game at this point simply because it’s a brand new generation of video games. Watch Dogs was an extremely hyped game that knew the sales were going to hit hard. Watch Dogs even pushed back the date, but still managed to not give PC users a decent looking game on a more graphically enhanced platform. At least in my eyes, Watch Dogs should have been a smash on the PC.
Watch Dogs was released on May 27th, 2014 and was Ubisoft’s prime game this year, selling over 4 million copies in its first week. TheWorse Mod is one small reason why some games should take a little bit longer in development to achieve an amazing result.
