What Rare could be working on!
As we all know the big part of Gamescom is now over and Rare was a no show this time around and it is to be believed that they’ve been working on another project before the release of Kinect Sports Rivals on the Xbox One. There are many speculations as to what this game could be and in this article I’ll be expressing my thoughts and will share what games I think they’ve been working on before the release of Kinect Sports Rivals (Which came out this year). Since Kinect Sports Rivals was received as an “okay” game from many sites and sources it’s almost guaranteed that they won’t be going back to that series for awhile or maybe even forever and with Microsoft slowly drifting away from the Kinect for the Xbox One it would make sense for them to stop making Kinect games as the games would struggle to sell and would hurt the company even more. So without further ado let’s get into what I think Rare has been working on.
Banjo-Kazooie
Although the last installment in the Banjo-Kazooie series came out in 2008 (Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts) it would make so much sense that Rare would go back to making games for the series, Nuts and Bolts may not have been the Banjo-Kazooie game everyone wanted but it was a very good game for what it was. But with that being said Rare made note that people wanted another platform styled game much like the first two but haven’t really acknowledged the series after that. In fact they only worked on Kinect Sports games after Nuts and Bolts with the exception of helping out with Killer Instinct for the Xbox One. But what makes sense here are many, many things… Being that Microsoft is kind of “hurting” for exclusives and a new Banjo-Kazooie would definitely push units out if it’s done correctly. Microsoft will definitely push for this especially now that they, secretly, dropped the Kinect as a must have for the Xbox One. Rare would also benefit a lot if they did this, as everyone is waiting on a new installment in the series and would absolutely love it. (I know I would)
So what is there to lose here? (The answer is nothing, check it out)
- It would help Microsoft sell units
- Rare would, once again, be victorious
- Microsoft will have one of the most iconic mascots back as it would be exclusive to the Xbox
Everything just seems to be pointing in the direction of Banjo-Kazooie but there is one more series Rare could be bringing back from the dead and in reality… They kind of already did.
Conker
It’s no mystery that Conker is one of the most loved and controversial game made by Rare, and it should be. Rare went away from their usual “fun for the family” styled games and threw a curve ball at us named Conker’s Bad Fur Day in 2001 for the Nintendo 64, there was also another installment in the series but it was a simple port with added multiplayer on the Xbox 360 in 2005 titled Conker: Live & Reloaded. The game was extremely fun and inappropriate that even if you had no interest in that style of game you were curious enough to see what the game was about and it somehow always sucked you in. But why would Rare bring back a game that only had two installments with the last one being released nine years ago? Well the answer is Project Spark. Weird I know. But at this years E3 the folks over at Team Dakota and SkyBox Labs announced a Conker pack for use in their game. With the pack you can spawn in Conker characters, enemies, items, etc. So its obvious that Rare haven’t forgotten about the franchise and might have something up their sleeve for their next game. If they decide to bring the series back it would leave a huge impact for both Rare and Microsoft… of course the game would still have to be extremely inappropriate and would have to be a platformer as well but I think it would work.
Much like my Banjo-Kazooie prediction this would produce the same outcome for both companies as there is nothing to lose:
- It would sell units
- Rare would be on top, again
- Microsoft would have an iconic mascot
Also keep in mind that this year vice president Phil Harrison revealed that Rare has several products in the works. Hopefully one of those products are one of the two games I mentioned above, or both! But either way with Rare not being at Gamescom this year it made a lot of people wonder what they were up to. Would you whether have a new Banjo-Kazooie or a new Conker? Let us know in the comment section and stay here for a lot more Rare information!
