Get your wallet ready for another pounding, here are the new August releases on Steam

It’s that time of the month again for Steam to reveal what new games are coming so get your wallet ready because here’s what’s coming to Steam this August.

Shadowgate

This August 21st the remake of the NES classic Shadowgate arrives on Steam. Shadowgate is a classic point and click adventure game where you play as an adventurer whose searching Tyragon to find an evil warlock. Tyragon is filled with many puzzles you’ll need to solve to find the warlock and the castle itself is filled with plenty of dead ends and death traps.

The Steam version of Shadowgate includes both a new orchestral soundtrack as well as the original 8 bit one. The Steam version has also been updated with new 3D animations and the usual list of Steam achievements. If you’re a fan of point and click adventure games and don’t mind one that will kill you at every turn then Shadowgate should be worth the wait.

Shelter 2

This August will see players get the chance to guide a powerful Lynx through a cruel world with her cubs when Shelter 2 comes out. While Shelter 1 was just a survival game where players controlled a beaver and her cubs had to avoid predators while searching for food.

This time your playing through the life-cycle of a mother cub and now you’re the predator. As you feed yourself and your cubs, you’ll all become strong enough to hunt the local wildlife for food. It’s also important that you set up a den nearby a water source and make sure your cubs don’t just wander off after all you don’t want to let one of your cub’s die right.

Crawl

Crawl is the first early access game of this month and is a local multiplayer dungeon crawler with a very unique twist. The twist here is that one player controls the adventurer exploring a randomly generated and everyone else controls the monster and the traps scattered across the dungeon.

The player who controls the monster that kills the adventurer becomes the adventurer so the game is a race against the other players to gather enough experience, loot and magic so you can kill the dungeon’s boss before the other players or the AI if your playing by yourself.

While Crawl uses a retro graphic style, don’t let that fool you when the game comes out August 6th.

Residue

Available on Steam later today, Residue is a story driven 2D platformer taking place in the Aral Sea in present-day Uzbekistan. The Aral Sea used to be the fourth largest lake in the world but was turned into a wasteland after decades of cotton irrigation by the Soviet Union.

You play as three separate characters, each with their own abilities as you explore the wasteland and the artifacts left behind by a bygone age. Residue is a non-violent game which instead focuses on creating an all too realistic and immersive world so if you’re looking to try sometime a little different, Residue might be what you’re looking for.

Metro: Last Light Redux

For those of you already with a copy of Metro: Last Light, the Redux addition will be available for pre-order with 50% off. The Redux addition of Metro: Last Light was built using EAs new 4A engine so the game has better lighting, animations, better smoke effects and more dynamic lighting to label a few.

The main difference in gameplay Redux adds to an already great game are the Spartan and survival moods. In Survival mood the game becomes more like a survival horror game as the enemies become tougher, you take longer to reload and you have more limited resources.

Spartan meanwhile features more polished combat and more resources turning the game into more of a first person shooter. The Redux edition also comes with the Ranger DLC free and will be released August 29th.

Hatoful Boyfriend

Easily the best pigeon dating simulator ever, Hatoful Boyfriend is coming to Steam August 21st and is available for pre-order today with 10% off.

In Hatoful Boyfriend you’re the only human student at the prestigious St. PigoeNation Institution, a school for talented pigeons.  To land in your perfect relationship your going to need to level up your stats by taking classes like gym. Afterall what talented pigeon would date a clueless human.

Hatoful Boyfriend is filled with dark twists and turns which involves a plot to cause the apocalypse but its nothing a little true love between two separate species can’t handle. With multiple endings and multiple pigeons to date Hatoful Boyfriend offers a lot of replay value.

Eidolon

Available from today on Eidolon is a survival game set in Western Washington at around 2400 C.E. With little guidance the entire Western Washington area is your to explore.

Along with avoiding the predators you’ll discover over 150 different documents littered around that explain the lives of many characters who used to live here.  It’s up to you to decide what you want to do but your going to need to hunt down food if your going to survive.

Rex Rocket

Why is it always the least dangerous looking games that end up being the most dangerous and Rex Rocket is definitely one of those. Rex Rocket is a classic 2D side scrolling game with puzzle elements that’s inspired by old school games so spikes are of course a one hit kill.

In Rex Rocket you’ll get lost in your expansion starship as you search for unlockable and harder courses in the starship which serves as a hub world to over 100 hand-crafted levels with filled with upgrades and challenging boss fights.

Can you beat all 100 levels and find the games collectables Info Nodes scattered across the starship? If you think your up for it Rex Rocket is due out the 5th of August.

Another Perspective

For those of you who likes their puzzle platformer to feature a confusing storyline with a unique gimmick, Another Perspective may just be the game you’re looking for.

Another Perspective follows a man whose (according to the games Steam description) having a slow existential meltdown as his looking for something he/they can’t remember. The main gimmick of the game is that for some unknown reason you can swap minds with another? version of yourself who sees the world in a different light.

Using both perspectives you’ll need to solve puzzles as you go on a journey inside someone’s mind to find out who they are , what they lost in the first place, why are they here, what’s up with the clone and why must they open doors in his own mind. The answers might be found but you’ll only find out when you buy Another Perspective which is due out August 9th.

NeonXSZ

NeonXSZ is what happens when someone decided to combine Diablo like dungeon crawling with a first person space shooter. The game promises over 100 + hours of gameplay and has over 1000 persistent enemies per game from 4 separate factions. The game will have seven cyber stations when its complete and each will have 10 to 20 hours of gameplay each and as of now three of them are content filled.

Why NeonXSZ has loot, unlike Diablo which drops random loot here all the loot is attached to the ships themselves so if a ship has a part you want to go for it but there not going to just give it to you. The AI has access to the same weapons, ships and armour upgrades that you have but if you’re not up for the combat you can also visit the games docking stations if you’d rather pay for your upgrades.

NeonXSZ also has a physics engine for all the games objects so for example your loot can go into orbit around the player to create a defensive barrier and Physics based shields will swing around your ship based on the direction your ship is moving.

NeonXSZ is an early access game that will be released on Steam August 22nd.

Ultra Street Fighter 4

August 8th will mark the latest arrival in the Street Fighter 4 series when Ultra becomes available for download. If you already own a copy of Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition than you can get Ultra for the discounted price of €14.99 instead of the €27.99 that the rest of use has to pay.

Ultra Street Fighter 4 adds dozens of tweaking and nerfing to existing characters in an attempt to make this the most balance entry yet as well as 5 new characters and 6 new stages. The new characters include wrestler Hugo whose so big he covers his own health bar, Poison whose Hugo’s transsexual manager and fights with a jockey strap, Street Fighter 3 Elena who was the first character to fight only using her feet, Final Fight’s Rolento and new character Decapre.

Game Beasts

Game Beasts is a recently green-lighted game that will go into Early Access on August 29th. Game Beasts is a local co-op game that was inspired by old school arcade brawlers like Streets of Rage and Final Fight and in Game Beasts you play as animated puppetlike characters.

As of right now characters  in Game Beasts can punch, grab, pick up and throw items and other characters around the areas and into environmental pieces like bins, garbage trucks and a wrestling game. The game is only in its very early stages but the creator has promised to add more moves, areas, character types, 8 player co-op, tournaments and a sandbox mode as the game continues to grow.

So that’s what’s coming to Steam this August and there’s plenty to choose from no matter what type of gamer you are but is there any particular game your interested in?
