Will the price of the LG Optimus G Pro seem better with the new Android KitKat 4.4?

by GH Staff

Here’s the gist of it. The LG Optimus G Pro is a great phone. Critics love it, users love it, heck, everyone loves it. It’s one of the few phablets that can compete with the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4, both in price and in performance. Still, the price of the LG Optimus G Pro remains relatively high, so many people looking for a new phone are left wondering whether or not to grab it or wait. The fact is, Samsung will release the Galaxy S5 soon, and HTC will also bring the new model of the One on the market (currently referred to as the One M8). Add to that the fact that LG is planning to release the LG Optimus G Pro 2 this year too, and we have ourselves a dilemma.

If you’re debating whether or not to pick up the LG Optimus G Pro, there’s some news that you’ll be interested in. It seems that the LG has plans to introduce Android KitKat 4.4 on some phones, skipping Android 4.3 altogether. This includes the LG Optimus G Pro, which, according to recent information coming directly from LG, will be receiving KitKat 4.4 sometime during Q2 2014. In other words, by the end of June, this great phone will be getting buffed up significantly.

Our advice? You can hold off on purchases until the price of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8 are revealed. You can also wait to see what the price of the LG Optimus G Pro 2 will be set at. On the other hand, the LG Optimus G Pro already does everything you need from a phone, and does it well. Sure, video recording is not exactly the best, but other than that, there are no real issues with this phablet. It has great hardware, good battery life, it’s reliable, fast and looks surprisingly good. It’s also quite accessible in terms of pricing. Considering that the LG Optimus G Pro is going to receive KitKat 4.4 in a few months time, it’s definitely a solid investment. If you’re not in a rush to grab a new phone, wait a couple of weeks and decide then. But if you want to buy a phone now, don’t hesitate. The fact that the LG Optimus G Pro will receive an upgrade to its Android OS makes the diminishing price seem that much better. Honestly, in this context, it’s quite the bargain.
