CD Projekt Red CEO Marcin Iwinski wanted to reassure fans that development of Cyberpunk 2077 was “not really affected” by the recent Witcher 3 delay, which has been moved to a 2015 release date. The open-world fantasy RPG was pushed back for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Cyberpunk 2077 is the other upcoming RPG coming from developer CD Projekt Red, this one set in a futuristic world full of cyberpunk wonder…and odd mechanical women who like sitting in the middle of the road on a lonely night. We assume she’s waiting for the love of her life under the starlight to come rescue her.
CEO Marcin Iwinski spoke with GameSpot today, saying “Cyberpunk 2077 is developed by a separate team within CD Projekt Red, so the development of Cyberpunk 2077 is not really affected.” Due to the massive scope of The Witcher 3, members of the Cyberpunk 2077 development team has moved over to the fantasy RPG team to help push the open-world title into the world. Iwinski confirmed this, saying “In order to ship a huge RPG we do use help of certain team members between teams. It works this way between Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3.”
Developers often switch between teams to finalize “key” elements and features, according to Iwinski. This is pretty normal in the game development world. Iwinski reiterated that the Witcher 3 delay will not affect Cyberpunk 2077 in any way with this development practice, however. “So now harm done here,” he said. All-in-all the Witcher 3 delay still has not affected the development of their futuristic RPG, which is incredible news. Though better news would be the release of both RPGs within 2014, that would be great in a perfect world.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is expected to release in February 2015 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Cyberpunk 2077 will launch for the same systems sometime in the future. For now, an official release date has not yet been unveiled.
