The developers behind Witcher 3, unveiled that Microsoft may be hiding the true power of the Xbox One and be able to release performance boosts in the upcoming years. The strategy of not revealing the true power of the console is one MS have used before, but we can’t be certain that will be the case here.
As with every console, the developers learn in time how to get the most of its hardware, and even though some teams are certain they’ve managed to take the most out of the Xbox One, Balázs Török a programmer behind Witcher 3, shared with Eurogamer that he doesn’t believe this to be true.
He says that Microsoft has been opening up new ways to get more out of the Xbox 360, years after its release, back in both 2007 and 2008. What most people struggle to understand is how console hardware from past years could support new games, which barely run on new pc hardware. The simple explanation is that when a game is made for the PC, a wide variation of possibilities is considered and the developers limit themselves so the game could run on multiple machines. At the same time, they get more and more familiar with the hardware configuration of a console and are able to use it at the maximum. This just goes to show how important software and the engine behind a game really are.
As the Xbox One offers the developers a software kit to use, when they are developing a game, the person who becomes most responsible for the connection and symbiosis between software and hardware becomes the owner of the console, in this case Microsoft. That being said, it is not a wild suggestion that in later years developers may receive new and upgraded software kits, which will let them make even better games for the next-gen console.
Moreover, Microsoft is working very hard on cloud-based gaming and hardware, which means we may be able to experience something we are not even able to imagine, coming in the future to the Xbox One. The console is already on the market and the titles, which gamers are able to play are more than amazing. However, most people find it hard to make a noticeable difference between the last-gen consoles and the next-gen. What will come up in the future and what will be able to experience on the Xbox One, we can only wait and see.
