Get out of the way! Tanks are invading the Xbox 360, as Wargaming announced that their popular franchise – World of Tanks – will be released globally on the 12th of February. World of Tanks has reached an astonishing 1 million concurrent players in Russia back in January, and continues to be one of the most popular free-to-play titles out there. An official statement from Wargaming revealed the numbers on the 21st of January:
“Tankmen on the Russian servers all play at different times of the day and although their overall number has long since surpassed several million daily active users, the PCCU has been hovering around 900,000 gamers for the past few months. Finally, we’ve breached the one million mark. We are set to scale even greater heights with considerable improvements planned for World of Tanks in 2014”.
The financial success of the game is all the more emphasized by its impressive revenues of $372 million during 2013.
At launch on the Xbox 360, World of Tanks will feature over 100 tanks, from nations such as Germany, Russia and the United States. Players will be receiving updates with more units over time, and while the game is completely f2p, microtransactions are obviously included. In order to play the game, Xbox 360 users will need to have an active Xbox Live Gold account. Without one, players will still be able to test the game, but only for a 7-day trial period. World of Tanks isn’t the only popular franchise of Wargaming though, as the company has also released World of Warplanes, a similar game focusing on aerial combat. World of Warplanes sees heavier competition though, facing off the similar-looking War Thunder, which is also a highly popular F2P title.
