Over the weekend, GamerHeadlines reported on the moderator takedown of popular World of Warcraft subreddit, r/WoW, in response to launch issues, which included ludicrously long queue times (a side effect of Blizzard’s decision to temporarily reduce the maximum number of people allowed in each realm) and various connection issues, plaguing the recently released World of Warcraft expansion, Warlords of Draenor.
Fortunately, it seems that r/WoW is back up and running following top moderator, nitesmoke’s, unprecedented shutdown. The World of Warcraft subreddit’s return is no surprise as its nearly 200,000 subscribers naturally took to outrage against nitesmoke’s controversial decision.

World of Warcraft Subreddit Returns
As previously mentioned, World of Warcraft‘s subreddit, r/WoW, has returned, albeit under new management. A new moderator, known only as “aphoenix”, has apparently taken over r/WoW, stating the following in regards to the situation:
“Nitesmoke made a mistake. It was a big one. I’m going to simply ask that you stop trying to get back at him. It’s over; he’s not on the moderation team here. Nobody here is on board with how he handled the situation. We will not handle the situation in the same way. Nitesmoke has apologized (to me, and through me, to you), and I apologize as well.”
“I’m not trying to sweep anything under the rug; I’m trying to put out the right message. I think the right message right now is ‘Things got messed up. We understand that. Nitesmoke made a mistake. We’re working at setting things right.'”
World of Warcraft’s 5th expansion, Warlords of Draenor, released last Wednesday. Notable features of the expansion include raising WoW‘s level cap to 100 and introducing a plethora of new zones and other new content.
What are your thoughts on this entire World of Warcraft subreddit situation? Do you feel that nitesmoke’s decision was childish and spiteful, or was it a valid response to Blizzard’s mishandling of Warlords of Draenor‘s launch? Also, what are your thoughts on what new mod, aphoenix, had to say on the matter?
