WWE Network Launches For Mobile and Consoles

by GH Staff
Will the WWE Network succeed after its launch earlier today?

In a move that’s sure to put a smile on the faces of wrestling fans around the world, Vince McMahon’s multi-million dollar company, the WWE has released its own Network today amid much hype and fanfare.

The network, which will consist of 1,000 hours of WWE programming has been heavily marketed to the masses over the last 3 months following the finalization of a deal which fans everywhere had been hoping to see for a few years now.

When asked about the deal and its low price of only $9.99 a month, Dana White, owner of the UFC which launched its own network a few months ago was incredulous, “It’s ridiculous. I hate to sound like I’m attacking the WWE or devalue what they did because Vince McMahon, say what you want – and he’s always smashing us and talking s–t about us, but I will tell you this, I was watching WWE, I was a little kid and Vince was the commentator in WWE – this guy has been kicking ass, breaking rules and doing things that people said he couldn’t do over and over again.”

The subscription, which requires a 6-month commitment, will host 400 past pay-per-views, many of which will come from former promotions, such as the WCW and ECW, as well as those held by the WWE brand. On top of the pay-per-views will be a conglomerate of network-exclusive original programming, never-before seen by the viewing audience which will be available for live-streaming before current shows such as WWE’s flag-ship program Monday Night Raw, as well as WWE Smackdown!.

Some of the shows subscribers to the network can expect are WWE Legends House, which will be a reality TV program featuring past legends within the WWE, such as “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and “The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart, The Monday Night War, which will feature information regarding the infamous television ratings war between WCW’s Monday Nitro and the WWE’s Monday Night Raw which took place from the mid-90’s-early 2000’s, as well as a sneak-peak at up-and-coming performers with their NXT program showcasing everything the younger generation of performers have to offer.

However, the greatest part of the network’s features comes with their showing each month’s pay-per-view within the confines of Vince’s subscription. That’s right, in a company whose average pay-per-view cost is about $50 a month, fans will be able to gain access to thousands of clips of old content, exclusive television shows, and each month’s $50 pay-per-view, all for the low, low price of $9.99 a month.

The big question on economists minds is, “can it work?”. Of course, being an enormous value, the network will sell many subscriptions to its loyal fan-base of die-hard wrestling fans, however, will that be enough to account for the loss of cash the WWE will inquire in making their monthly financial incentives worth $9.99, rather than the usual $50?

Only time will tell, but if the WWE has taught us anything, it’s to never count out Vince McMahon, as it was his vision that brought professional wrestling out of bingo halls to where it is today.
