Xbox and TCL have announced a partnership that will bring the Xbox app to select TCL Smart TVs in the coming months. According to the official announcement on Xbox Wire, the integration is intended to give millions of TCL television users across more than 25 countries access to Xbox games through cloud streaming.
The planned rollout expands the range of screens through which eligible players can use Xbox Cloud Gaming. On supported TCL televisions, players will be able to open the Xbox app, connect a supported controller, and stream supported games directly through the TV. Xbox says the goal is to make its games available to millions of people through Smart TVs they already own across the announced markets.
What players will need to use the Xbox app
Xbox Wire says the service will require three elements: the Xbox app on a supported Smart TV, a supported controller, and cloud playtime. That cloud playtime can be included with Xbox Game Pass or purchased separately, depending on the player’s access.
For eligible Xbox Game Pass subscribers, the app will provide cloud access to a library of supported games. Xbox describes that catalog as spanning blockbuster releases, established franchises, and independent games.
Supported games will be streamed through Xbox Cloud Gaming, with the Xbox app serving as the point of access on eligible TCL Smart TVs. Xbox says cloud playtime can come with Game Pass or be purchased separately.
Progress will carry across the Xbox ecosystem
The partnership also extends Xbox’s existing cross-device approach to another television platform. Xbox says a player’s games, friends, achievements, and saves will carry across supported TCL Smart TVs, Xbox consoles, and PCs within the Xbox ecosystem.
Xbox presents the rollout as part of its cross-device ecosystem. The company specifically says a player’s games, friends, achievements, and saves will travel across supported TCL Smart TVs, Xbox consoles, and PCs. Those account elements remain connected as players move among supported screens, making the television another place to access the same Xbox activity.
Rollout will cover more than 25 countries
Xbox and TCL say the partnership is expected to reach millions of TCL Smart TV users across more than 25 countries.
The only confirmed timing is that the Xbox app is scheduled to reach select TCL Smart TVs in the coming months.
What the TCL partnership changes
For Xbox, the agreement adds supported TCL televisions to the devices through which its cloud gaming service can be accessed. For TCL users with compatible hardware, it creates a direct route to supported Xbox games using the TV, a controller, and eligible cloud playtime.
The announcement confirms the partnership, its planned international reach, the basic access requirements, and a rollout window measured in the coming months.
