Xbox One Controller Now Compatible With PC

by GH Staff

Microsoft has today released official drivers which when installed, will enable the user to use the Xbox One controller to play an array of PC games. The drivers will be part of an update in the near future, but you can gain access to them early via MajorNelson. Only wired controllers will work currently, with seemingly no plans for wireless support, although it shouldn’t be ruled out as both wired and wireless are both viable options for the Xbox 360 controller.

Although Microsoft generally promote usage of their controllers on specific windows-based games such as Halo 2, there are many more uses such as emulators and various content through Steam. Larry Hryb, otherwise known as “Major Nelson”, pointed out the fact that many have requested Xbox One controller support, as follows:

We know our fans have wanted PC compatibility, and we know they wanted to be able to use the Xbox One controller with the same games and applications they have been playing with using the Xbox 360 controller.

This means if you already use an Xbox 360 controller for your PC games or other applications, you will be able to use the Xbox One controller if desired. Obviously a micro USB connection is required.
