The XBOX One has just received an update focused around the Social and TV playing aspects of the console and directed at preview members, and I’m here to give you the short and dirty of what changed. Let’s not waste any time.
XBOX ONE UPDATES 8/14/2014
The Party System
While the Xbox One had already hosted a cross-game party app, this new update re-organized the system into something both more user-friendly and useful. There is now a party leader, it is easier to enact common actions like muting another player, and now it is easier to see if other players in your party are playing the same game as you. Again, all of these updates are for Preview Members only.
New Friends System
The XBOX One’s new friends system will allow easier and simpler gamerscore comparison as well as a better ability to keep track of what your friends are playing, and more.
Media Player
The XBOX One is introducing to Preview members a media player which can, for now, only play files from a USB port, but will later have DLNA support.
Stream to Smartglass TV
The XBOX One will be able to stream TV as well as change channels, pause, and play, “without interrupting gameplay” using the XBOX SmartGlass app.
Boot to TV
The XBOX One can now be set to boot directly to TV from Standby.
Smartglass Updates
XBOX One players will be able to post status messages from the Activity feed, add comments, and share items from Game Clips and Activity feed. A personalized Activity Feed has also been added for each account. Messages can now support full conversation view. Players will be able to record clips directly from the Now Playing bar. Upgrading the app will also include a “What’s New” page highlighting new releases.
