Xbox One Will Support External Storage

According to Microsoft spokesperson, Larry Hryb, the Xbox One will soon be supporting external storage. This is a much-requested feature of the current gen console and will delight fans everywhere. In a post he uploaded to Reddit, Hryb said the Xbox One was gaining momentum after, what he described as, a “wobbly” launch and an operating system that “just wasn’t good enough.”

The post was followed up by a number of users leaving positive feedback and asking questions. One poster asks Hryb (AKA “MajorNelson”) about any word on external storage, to which he responded by saying it’s “coming soon” and that he needed to “check on media support.”

While details are vague at the moment, Xbox One planning chief, Albert Penello, confirmed back in March that plans to bring external storage to the console were being made, but at the time had yet to be finalised. Currently the console features an internally-build storage device that holds a maximum of 500GB. However, as all games need to be installed to the hard-drive, many users are finding a 1/2 terabyte of data storage is insufficient, particularly as some titles require up to 40GB of space.

The Xbox One will also be receiving new updates this month, including friend notifications that announce when other players log on (a feature that has been hotly-anticipated), as well as improvements to Kinect voice and motion sensors and a progress bar that displays the status of game saves.
