YOGVENTURES failed it’s Kickstarter and causes Winterkewl to go bankrupt
When you sign up to help fund a Kickstarter your always running the risk of losing your money and yesterday that happened to thousands as YOGVENTURES failed it’s Kickstarter.
The game was under development by Winterkewl and was inspired by Minecraft and had characters designed by the youtubers at YOGCAST. Yogcast had hoped that this game would become the ultimate modders game.
The game has been in development since its Kickstarter started back in 2012 and when it came to Kickstarter in May 2012 the game only needed a budget of $250,000. Despite this the game managed to double its goal and in May 2012 Winterkewl released a closed beta for fans in August 2013.
Despite doubling its initial target on Kickstarter the game was today cancelled due to lack of funds despite the people at Yogcast using their own money to fund the game themselves. Along with the lack of funds Yogcast are blaming the games failure due to the teams lack of experience.
The failure of the game will mean the end of Winterkewl studio’s and in a e-mail sent to backers Yogcast explained that:
“As you may have heard, Winterkewl Games have stopped work on Yogventures–but this is actually a good thing as the project was proving too ambitious and difficult for them to complete with their six-man team.”
While Yogcast won’t be refunding anybody their money, they will be offering backers and people who pre-purchased YOGVENTURES a steam key to the game TUG by Nerd Kingdom. In the e-mail sent to backers of the game Yogcast said that:
“In many ways TUG is the game we were hoping Winterkewl would create. It has huge potential for the future. We’ve been playing the Early Access version on Steam and you’ll soon be able to see us playing the game on Yogscast channels.”
Not only that but Yogcast are going to be giving the team at Nerd Kingdom the assets, source code and designs for YOGVENTURES so in a way the game could live on in TUG.
Yet despite this Yogcast are still ambitious about their future in the games industry as their e-mail sent to backers ended with
” I want to stress that we are talking to a whole bunch of potential partners about other cool games and exclusive content that we can provide for you guys”
So YOGVENTURES failed it’s Kickstarter but we’ll have to see if this failed Kickstarter will have any effect on future Yogcast games and content.
