4th League of Legends season kicks off

With the implementation of the lastest 4.1 patch for League of Legends, Riot gives the start to the 4th season of the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS). The first phase, referred to as the LCS Spring Split, has begun  on Tuesday, the 15th of January, and will be running for the next 11 weeks, and 8 teams from Europe and North America will be battling it out for a chance take part in this year’s World Championships, held in South Korea.

The 8 European teams competing are:

  • SK Gaming
  • Supa Hot Crew
  • Millenium
  • Fnatic
  • Copenhagen Wolves
  • Roccat
  • Gambit Gaming
  • Alliance

The 8 North American teams competing are:

  • TSM
  • Curse
  • CLG
  • Team Dignitas
  • Evil Geniuses
  • Cloud 9
  • XDG
  • Team Coast

Some great games have already been streamed, so if you want to get into the competitive spirit, hop over to the League of Legends esports website. You can view live streams, see match schedules and keep up to date with all the news regarding the LCS. The prizes for this year haven’t been announced yet, but expect overall prizes to add up to several million dollars. Last year’s champions SK Telecom T1 took home a 1$ million prize, and Riot has a tradition of boosting prizes in each consecutive season.

If you’re bored of watching and feel like playing a game, you’ll be pleased to know that all of the ranked ladders have been reset today. A lot of people are already battling it out and trying to climb up the ranks as fast as possible, so get to it. And, just to make sure you’re not caught off guard, you might want to take a look at the recent patch notes. Notable changes include nerfs to Annie, Evelynn and Nasus, changes to vision and buffs to older champions like Anivia.
