Play By Play Studios has locked in a release date. NBA The Run arrives June 9 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam — priced at $29.99 for the Standard Edition.
A Deluxe Edition at $39.99 was also announced today, which includes three unlocked Rookie Variants: Stephen Curry (Warriors ’09), Luka Dončić (Mavericks ’18), and Kevin Durant (SuperSonics ’07), plus 1,000 CRED — the game’s in-game currency used to buy alternate jerseys, dunk animations, taunts, and other cosmetics. Notably, the studio is going straight-purchase rather than loot boxes: “You get what you want, no packs to rip here.”
Progression is tied to a Profile Rank system — the better you play and the more style you bring to tournaments, the faster you rank up and unlock higher-tier shop items, including five street legends available at launch.
Before the full release, there’s another beta weekend this Saturday, May 16 (10am–2pm PST). It’ll introduce street legend Spin Cycle and a new mode called Knockout Solos, where each player controls a full team of three. You can wishlist the game on Steam now.
The studio says it’s building the game “brick by brick alongside the community” — which suggests post-launch content and gameplay updates are already planned. For a $29.99 price point in a space dominated by NBA 2K’s annual cycle, that kind of community-first positioning is clearly intentional.
If you’ve been following the recent wave of new gaming releases hitting multiple platforms this summer, NBA The Run is one of the more interesting smaller titles on the calendar.
