Flying Rat Studio announced Pit Panic this week — a roguelike 2D platformer heading to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. Launch is set for July, with a specific date still to come.
The concept is straightforward but looks well-executed. You play as an archaeologist working their way up through handcrafted underground levels, armed with a hook that does more than it looks. It digs through blocks, lets you swing across gaps, and unlocks hidden areas — physics-driven movement built around momentum and improvisation rather than memorised patterns.
The environmental interaction goes further than most platformers in this space. Sand turns to glass, jelly catches fire, bridges become weapons if the situation calls for it. It’s the kind of system that sounds gimmicky in a bullet point but tends to produce genuinely emergent moments in practice.
The Steam page is already up if you want to wishlist it or dig into the details.
Roguelikes have had a strong run on Switch 2 since launch — the platform has become a solid home for the genre, and a tight, well-designed platformer with physics-based movement has a real chance to stand out in July if the execution matches the pitch. It’s a crowded month for new gaming releases, but Pit Panic is one of the more interesting smaller titles to keep an eye on.
