Fable PC System Requirements Revealed: RTX 2060 Minimum, 4K Ultra Needs RTX 5080

Playground Games unveils official PC specs for Fable, with an RTX 2060 minimum and RTX 5080 for 4K Ultra, sparking debate over scalability and 30 FPS targets.

Playground Games has officially revealed the PC system requirements for the upcoming Fable reboot, and the news is a mixed bag for players. The minimum spec is surprisingly accessible—an RTX 2060 can get you into Albion—but the 4K Ultra tier demands an RTX 5080. The announcement, published on Steam News on August 31, 2026, has already sparked discussion among PC players about the game’s scalability and performance targets.

The requirements come as Fable prepares for its 2027 release, and they highlight a tension between ambition and accessibility. The game’s Living Population system, which gives over 1,000 handcrafted NPCs their own personalities and routines, and the ability to enter every building and buy houses and businesses, suggest a dense, simulation-heavy open world. Yet the minimum specs suggest Playground is aiming to make that world playable on hardware that’s now eight years old.

At the lowest preset, Fable targets 1080p at 30 FPS. The minimum requirements include a Ryzen 5 2600 or Core i7-6850K CPU, paired with an RTX 2060, RTX 5050, RX 6600, or Intel Arc A580 GPU. You’ll need 12GB of RAM and 6GB of VRAM. That’s a notably low bar for a major 2027 release, and it’s drawn a more positive response than the higher tiers, according to the official announcement.

Moving up, medium settings target either 1440p at 30 FPS or 1200p at 60 FPS, using an RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 5060, RX 6700 XT, or RX 9060 XT. For 1440p at 60 FPS, you’ll need an RTX 5070 or RTX 3080 Ti. The top tier, 4K at 60 FPS on Ultra, requires an RTX 5080 or RTX 4080. Interestingly, system memory tops out at just 16GB even at Ultra, though VRAM rises to 16GB.

Storage, Upscaling, and the 30 FPS Debate

The PC version of Fable supports both Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR, which could help bridge the gap between the listed resolutions and actual performance. However, the game requires an SSD and about 135GB of available space, which is standard for modern AAA titles.

Some PC players have taken the inclusion of the RTX 2060 as an encouraging sign that Playground is designing the game to scale across a wide range of systems. Others are less impressed by the continued use of 30 FPS targets, particularly at the recommended level, as many fans consider 60 FPS to be the PC standard. There’s also uncertainty about whether the listed resolutions are native, making it hard to judge exactly how demanding Fable‘s open world and various environments will be until more detailed benchmarks arrive.

What It Means for Players

That uncertainty makes the RTX 2060/Ryzen 5 2600 minimum more interesting than the much more intimidating RTX 5080 requirement. A modern open-world RPG demanding expensive hardware at 4K Ultra is hardly surprising, but getting Fable‘s dense population, enterable properties, businesses, relationships, and background simulation running on an eight-year-old mainstream GPU and CPU would be considerably more impressive.

Final performance will still depend on optimization and individual settings, but Playground’s initial specifications suggest the game may be far more scalable than its ambition would imply. For many PC players, that could matter far more than how demanding Fable becomes at 4K.
