How to Catch All Five Legendary Fish in Stardew Valley
Catch Crimsonfish, Angler, Legend, Glacierfish, and Mutant Carp by meeting each fish's exact season, location, weather, and fishing level requirements.
Stardew Valley has five legendary fish: Crimsonfish, Angler, Legend, Glacierfish, and Mutant Carp. Each legendary fish has one specific location and a season or all seasons, and four of the five have a fishing level requirement. Each can be caught only once per save file. When one bites, the fishing minigame icon wears a crown.

How to catch each legendary fish
Reach the required fishing level first. The Legend needs level 10, the Glacierfish needs level 6, the Crimsonfish needs level 5, the Angler needs level 3, and the Mutant Carp has no level requirement. Then stand in the exact spot listed above and fish at any time of day.
The Legend only bites on rainy Spring days. The Mutant Carp requires the Sewers to be unlocked, which means obtaining the Rusty Key after donating 60 items (artifacts or minerals) to the Museum. A legendary fish will not bite if you are in the wrong spot or do not meet its conditions.
What you need before you start
- Fishing level: 10 for the Legend, 6 for the Glacierfish, 5 for the Crimsonfish, 3 for the Angler, and none for the Mutant Carp.
- The Iridium Rod or Advanced Iridium Rod.
- Tackle such as the Trap Bobber or Cork Bobber.
- Food that raises fishing, such as Seafoam Pudding.
A higher fishing level than the minimum required to hook a fish may be needed to land them.
Where it goes wrong
- Fishing in the wrong spot. Each legendary fish has one specific location.
- Fishing in the wrong season or weather. The Legend only bites on rainy Spring days.
- Fishing below the level requirement. The Legend will not bite below level 10.
- Trying to catch a legendary fish you already caught. Each can be caught only once per save file.
- Mr. Qi’s Extended Family quest is active. While it is active, Legendary Fish II are hooked instead of the original legendary fish.
FAQ
Can you catch a legendary fish twice?
No. Each original legendary fish can be caught only once per save file. Challenge Bait is the exception: it allows catching up to 3 of each legendary fish at one time.
What changes with Challenge Bait?
Challenge Bait changes the once-per-save-file limit by allowing up to 3 of each legendary fish at one time.
Why will the Legend not bite?
The Legend only bites on rainy Spring days. Check that it is Spring, raining, your fishing level is 10, and you are at the Mountain Lake near the log. You do not need a fish pond, and a Sturgeon is not one of the five legendary fish, so catching or keeping one does not affect this.
