NCsoft revealed the starting lineup for AION 2’s global commercial launch servers in two Steam Community announcements on October 4, 2026, one day before the free-to-play MMORPG launches on October 5. The posts, titled “Launch Servers List” and “Launch Server Matchmaking,” detail how the game’s servers are divided between its two factions. AION 2 is a PC-only MMORPG built in Unreal Engine 5, the same engine behind Jagex’s newly announced fourth RuneScape MMO, working title RS4.

Five Launch Regions and a Faction Choice

When launching AION 2, players first choose their Region, then their Faction, and finally select from the available servers in that region. Launch servers are listed across five regions: Europe, North America West, North America East, Latin America, and Asia. Europe has 18 Elyos-Asmodian server pairs, the largest list among the five regions. The October 5 launch follows other recent MMORPG news this fall, including the RuneScape Reignited launch date confirmed at RuneFest 2026.

One Faction Per Server

In AION 2, each server houses only one faction. The Elyos and the Asmodians each live on their own servers, and every Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian counterpart. NCsoft wrote that the two factions get “their own home while still meeting in shared PvP spaces like the Abyss.” Players choose a faction, ascend as a Daeva, and fight a faction war across a world 36 times larger than the original, according to the Steam store description.

How Server Matchmaking Works

For server matchmaking, NCsoft wrote that “each Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian server for a limited time.” The studio explained that the war between the factions “doesn’t stay behind borders for long,” so each pairing brings the two sides together. In cross-faction modes such as Spacetime Rifts and the Abyss, the players you meet from the other faction come from your matched server.

NCsoft used the example of the Asmodian server Israphel paired with the Elyos server Siel, so every Israphel Asmodian who enters the Abyss will run into Siel’s Elyos players. The studio wrote that server pairings will be updated periodically to keep the factions balanced, so today’s pairing may be replaced by a new challenger down the road.
