Jagex announced RuneScape Reignited during the RuneFest 2026 Summit on October 3, 2026, and confirmed that the new permanent character type will launch on December 2, 2026. Reignited arrives in a single update alongside the Adventure Guide and the next leap for Remastering RuneScape, described as the Remastering the early player journey update. The event was held on Saturday at the NEC in Birmingham, UK.
What RuneScape Reignited brings
RuneScape Reignited is a new permanent character type with a brand-new economy and hiscores, with no paid progression available. Reignited characters play in the same worlds that all existing characters, called Veteran characters, are already playing in. Veteran and Reignited characters cannot trade with one another, and each character type has its own Grand Exchange. Both character types can form or join clans and homesteads together. Reignited characters will have free access to members’ content for the first ten days following its launch.
A 25th anniversary rebuild
Jagex framed Reignited as the culmination of what the studio has been building towards this year and the start of a brand new chapter. The official blog title was RuneScape As It Was Always Meant To Be. The announcement during the 25th anniversary year follows a 2026 effort that removed Dailyscape, Auras and MTX items, shipped the Dungeoneering Remaster, the Player Avatar overhaul, the Player-Owned-House rework and Grand Exchange improvements, and added the Havenhythe content expansion. The Adventure Guide, launching alongside Reignited on December 2, is an optional feature that provides a recommended golden path through RuneScape for new and returning players.
RuneFest 2026 and the 2027 roadmap
The RuneFest 2026 Summit also revealed the 2027 Roadmap, built around three story arcs. The first arc, Hoard of Dragons, starts in January 2027 and features the Dragon Slayer II quest, the new Dragon Isle area, Grandmaster Clue Scrolls in an early-2027 Clue Expansion, and an Agility skill rework. The second arc is The City of Gnomes, and the third arc is Secrets of Karamja. An RS Plugins Beta was revealed and announced for October 2026.
The Reignited announcement lands beside the broader RuneScape franchise, which also includes the spin-off RuneScape: Dragonwilds and the ongoing MMO Old School RuneScape.
