Activision detailed the DMZ mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 in a PlayStation Blog post on October 5, 2026. DMZ launches alongside Campaign and Multiplayer when the game releases on October 23. Activision describes it as Call of Duty’s definitive extraction shooter experience.
Forward Operating Base and Stations
The Forward Operating Base (FOB) is the player’s command center for DMZ, where they manage progression, prepare gear, and plan the next deployment. As the player completes Operations across Hajin, the FOB evolves from a foothold to a fully operational base with over a dozen different Stations. Immediately accessible Stations include Operators, DMZ Orders, Stash/Loadout, Firing Range, and Deploy. Players can unlock more Stations as the base expands: the 3D Printer, Gunsmith, Vendor, Bounty Leaderboard, Boss Board, Dog Tag Case, and DMZ Progression. The 3D Printer uses Resources and 3D Printer Ingredients to craft gear and upgrade other Stations. The Gunsmith lets players buy attachments with DMZ Cash or build new weapons by extracting from Hajin with a Weapon Manual. The Vendor spends DMZ Cash on weapons and gear, with items rotating from day to day.
Deployment Options and XP Tips
Players choose one of three deployment options: Story Missions, Dynamic Operations, or Free Roam. Story Missions allow players to select and replay narrative objectives across Hajin for big rewards. Dynamic Operations deploy directly into a Dynamic Op to earn DMZ Cash and XP, and every completed Operation provides a Supply Drop of increasing rarity for the squad. Free Roam lets players deploy without a mission and explore Hajin City.
For DMZ XP, the post recommends prioritizing Story Missions, Dynamic Ops, and Orders for gear and big XP payouts. Players can hunt down Lieutenants and Commanders for XP plus their weapons and high-value loot. Looting consistently helps use items at the 3D Printer and improve match rating. The After Action Report rates the deployment, and players should strive for S Tier or better for the best rewards. Vehicles throughout Hajin provide faster travel across land, water, and air, and can be repaired and refueled at the Gas Station. Each area of Hajin has a particular Threat Level. If the player is too loud, they can expect a violent enemy response specific to that area, so it may be wise to be stealthy.
The post closes by saying this scratches the surface of DMZ. Activision said more DMZ content will arrive in later updates. Pre-orders for Modern Warfare 4 are open now on PlayStation 5, and the game launches October 23.
