Lichthund has announced that Rockbeasts, its rock and roll management RPG, will launch on PS5 in January 2027. The studio also revealed a partnership with Critical Role that covers both creative work and publishing, and confirmed that Critical Role members Matthew Mercer and Sam Riegel are joining the game’s voice cast. The news came in a PlayStation Blog post published on October 8, 2026.

Managing a band full of ego and half-finished songs

In Rockbeasts, players manage a band and take it from a garage full of ego, feedback, and half-finished songs all the way to the biggest stages. Along the way they juggle resources, wrangle personalities, put out fires, including literal ones, and try to keep the whole beautiful mess together long enough to make it big. Lichthund says the game is built around a specific fantasy drawn from the studio’s own love of music and how it shaped the team. The studio added that games driven by feeling are harder to pitch and categorize.

Critical Role joins creative and publishing

Lichthund is partnering with Critical Role on both the creative and publishing sides. The studio said Critical Role’s experience, talent, and taste for stories with real heart made it the combination the team always hoped for, and that the partnership should let Rockbeasts become the game it always wanted to make. Matthew Mercer and Sam Riegel, members of Critical Role, are joining the Rockbeasts cast as voice actors. Lichthund called seeing its characters played by the pair a dream come true, and said the two bring chaos, heart, and commitment that makes a script feel like a true adventure.

PS5 launch window and wishlist

Players can wishlist Rockbeasts now on the PlayStation Store ahead of the January 2027 launch on PS5. Lichthund did not name a specific release day in the announcement. The studio said it has been building toward this moment for a long time, that there is still work to do before release, and that it wants to make Rockbeasts the best version of itself. It also teased more news on the way in the run-up to launch.
