Emeteria, a New Tales studio, has released its fast-paced elemental action-adventure RPG Fading Echo on PlayStation 5 today, September 22, 2026. It joins other recent indie action games on the console, including Shape of Dreams, which launched on PS5 and Xbox with its The Starless Path update.
The launch was detailed in a PlayStation Blog post from Sylvain Sechi, a developer at Emeteria.
Players control One, a young Legend who fights to save Corel, a fractured world being consumed by a mysterious force known as the Paradox.
To survive, players experiment with One’s powers, manipulate the elements, and shift between realities to find new ways through combat, exploration, and puzzles.
How One uses her Aether
Aether, Fading Echo’s name for water, is central to One’s abilities. She can manipulate it, use it against enemies, and transform herself into a living blob of it.
In Aether form, players build momentum, surf through pipes, squeeze through narrow cracks, and launch across the environment. This traversal helps reach new areas, solve environmental puzzles, and works in combat, such as water-bombing enemies from above.
In combat, One can unleash waves of Aether and powerful charged blasts that drench enemies and change the state of the battlefield.
Aether reacts across Corel with elements such as lava, toxic waste, and Paradox corruption. Players can drench an enemy before conducting energy through them, solidify elements to change the battlefield, or set off chain reactions.
Reality shifting and the Paradox
The Paradox has fractured Corel into alternate realities, and One can shift between different versions of the same space and different versions of herself. Reality shifting is used across exploration, puzzles, and combat.
Paradox Corruption is spreading across Corel. At its center is Maddock, the ruthless leader of the Paradox on Corel, who stands in the way of One’s attempt to save the world.
The journey takes players across floating islands and through the fractured realities created by the Paradox.
Fading Echo is also a single-player adventure, and One meets a small group of unlikely allies along the way, each with their own relationship to the decaying world.
A demo is also available on PlayStation 5 starting today, September 22, 2026. Other action RPGs are on the way to PS5 as well, including Ninja JaJaMaru: Yokai Night Parade, a 3D action RPG arriving in 2027.
