Naval Strike, the third multi-platform Battlefield 4 DLC was launched today on consoles for Premium members. The PC version was also set to receive the new expansion today, however it has since been delayed due to technical difficulties.
According to a new post on Battlelog, DICE has “detected an issue” with the PC version of Naval Strike. While the developers have not stated what the problem pertains to, the multiplayer expansion will not release until DICE feels that it “meets the highest quality level possible”, whenever that may be:
Quality is our number one priority and we will not release Battlefield 4 Naval Strike on PC until we feel it meets the highest quality level possible. Once we have a confirmed date for PC, we’ll be sure to update those players on our official channels.
While today marked the Premium release, Naval Strike will be available to everyone- on consoles- on April 8. The new DLC includes Carrier Assault, an homage to the Battlefield 2142 Titan Mode, 4 new maps, 5 new weapons, 10 assignments and two new gadgets. No matter which system, Battlefield 4 has been cursed with problems since its rocky launch last October. Issues within the initial launch-window were dire enough to force DICE to halt development on Star Wars: Battlefront, Mirror’s Edge 2, and at the time, future Battlefield 4 DLC. Apparently the core game has improved enough to continue working on DLC…however problems seem to have shifted into the DLC itself.
The countless issues with Battlefield 4’s core gameplay, servers, and DLC have damaged DICE’s reputation among gamers; while it currently only affects Premium members, this last-minute delay definitely will not help improve their status.
Many Battlefield 4 players suggest that the game was released too early, and now we have a DLC that’s getting delayed due to unnamed problems. Do you think this move is a step in the right direction for DICE, or does this just simply pour more fuel on the angry blaze of disappointed fans? Sound off in the comments below!
