by GH Staff

Don’t know what to look forward to in terms of releasing games this spring? We rounded up the most highly anticipated games with release dates for all major platforms, just so you can get your gaming fix and set yourself a time-table. Whether you’re the owner of a PC, and Xbox One, a PS4 and even a Wii U, there’s definitely something worth looking forward to in the coming couple of months. Let’s get to it!

Dark Souls 2 successfully continued the legacy created by its predecessor, bringing enough innovation to keep fans interested, while also remaining true to its punishing gameplay core. It’s an exhilarating RPG that can be brutally punishing and extremely rewarding at the same time. Unfortunately, Dark Souls 1’s PC port was rather bad. This time around, Namco Bandai wants to satisfy the PC crowd too, and promises proper settings and control support. We’ve already seen some leaks about graphical settings on the PC version, enough to get us all the more hyped. If you’re a PC gamer and want a quality RPG to play, Dark Souls 2 will most likely deliver.

Dark Souls 2 is already available on consoles, and will be coming to the PC this month, on the 25th of April.

Zombies don’t seem to be going out of fashion any time soon. Dying Light is all about zombies and more. As the name suggest, light plays an imperative role in this first-person survival game, and staying indoors during the night will be highly advisable. The game not only looks great, but also brings in some unique no elements to the genre, such as free-running and foes that adapt to their surroundings. Dying Light promises to be a thrill and a challenge, and from what we’ve seen so far, it definitely looks fun to play.

The official release date for Dying Light hasn’t been revealed yet, but the game is aiming for a spring release, with May being the most likely bet. It’s coming to next-gen consoles, which should make content-hungry owners of the new Xbox One and PS4 happy, while also coming for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

An often underrated, but really anticipated title from Ubisoft, Child of Light impresses not through shaders and effects, but through beautiful artwork, atmosphere and design. It’s a platformer with a story to tell, but Ubisoft promises it’s also addictive gameplay-wise. Playing as a little girl called Aurora, you are tasked with returning the sun, moon and stars that were stolen by an evil Black Queen. It might seem trivial, but it’s actually a beautiful coming-of-age story that’s fit both for adults, and younger audiences.

Child of Light will be released on the 30th of April, on the PC, Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U, so whatever platform you own, you’ll be able to fully enjoy the game.

RPG fans can’t complain either during this season. Yes, The Witcher 3 isn’t coming this year, but we’re getting Bound by Flame, a title that’s surely going to grab some attention. Developed by an underdog studio named Spiders Studio, Bound by Flame caught us off guard with some impressive footage. It’s a 3rd person action-RPG similar to The Witcher (or even Dark Souls) in several ways, and while it’s unlikely to match CD Projekt Red’s high standards of quality, it still looks really promising.

Bound by Flame will be released on the 9th of May on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 and towards the end of May on the PC.

[promo title=”Wolfenstein: The New Order”][/promo]

Wolfenstein-The-New-Order

The next major title coming from Bethesda (after the launch of Elder Scrolls Online) this spring is the highly-anticipated continuation to the Wolfenstein series, mainly Wolfenstein: The New Order. B.J. Blazkowicz is back with a vengeance, and he’s ready to kick some Nazi butt. And boy oh boy have we been itching for an old-school FPS reminiscent of the good old days. We always loved that Wolfenstein didn’t take itself too seriously, and the same seems to apply with The New Order. The game looks great, sounds great, and plays great, and while the premise of the game is rather simplistic (kill Nazis), there’s bound to be a decent story hidden within too. If not, at least we’ll hear Blazkowicz deliver some epic punch-lines.

Bethesda’s Wolfenstein: The New Order is coming to the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and Xbox One on the 20th of May, and those that pre-order will be granted access to the upcoming Doom beta. Sadly, this beta will be limited to owners of either a solid PC, or the new Playstation 4 or Xbox One, suggesting that Doom will be restricted to current-gen platforms.

[promo title=”Watch Dogs”][/promo]

watch-dogs

Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs is by far one of the most anticipated action games to be released in the coming weeks. Bringing an open-world and diverse gameplay, Watch Dogs has big shoes to fill, given its hype level. There has been some negativity circulating around the web regarding to Watch Dogs, mostly because of apparently tuned-down graphics in the latest gameplay videos and screenshots, compared to how the game originally promise to look like. The fact that Watch Dogs will require UPlay on the PC even if bought through Steam isn’t exactly making gamers happy either. Still, these elements don’t seem to alter the fact that the gaming community is eagerly anticipating Watch Dogs, which will be coming for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.

Watch Dogs will be released on the 27th of May on all the major platforms, but will also be released on the Wii U sometime during Q2 2014 (mid/late summer).

Solving your own murder seems like an interesting idea? Well, it might just be a successful one too. Murdered: Soul Suspect is an upcoming action game that takes place in Salem, Massachusetts. You’ll be playing as a ghost trying to solve your own murder, trying to avenge your death and battling demonic forces that have an appetite for your soul. It promises to bring interesting gameplay elements as well as a solid story-line. Square Enix’s Murdered: Soul Suspect is also going to land on most major platforms, so expect to see it on the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One and PS4.

Soul Suspect will be released on the 3rd of June in North America and on the 6th of June in Europe.

[promo title=”Wildstar”][/promo]

WildStar

The Carbine and NCSoft developed MMORPG Wildstar has gotten quite the hype recently, and justifiably so. It’s bound to be one of the biggest MMORPG releases this year, alongside already released titles such as Elder Scrolls Online. Allowing players to explore a universe filled with comedy and brutality, Wildstar will most likely cater to a lot of MMORPG fans, including both massive amounts of PvE and PvP. The feedback from the game’s beta stage has so far been positive, and while Wildstar isn’t revolutionary graphics-wise, it makes up for it through engaging gameplay elements and diversity.

Wildstar will be launched on the PC on the 3rd of June.

[promo title=”Mario Kart 8″][/promo]

Nintendo owners will be getting some exclusive content too. The highly anticipated Mario Kart 8 is closing in on its release date, bringing updated graphics, returning characters and an all-too-familiar but memorable gameplay. A racing game fit for adults and children alike, Mario Kart 8 will surely provide Wii U owners with some quality entertainment. Nintendo has a lot riding on this exclusive, so Mario Kart 8 is unlikely to disappoint.

Mario Kart 8 will be released on the 29th of May in Japan, on the 30th of May in Europe and North America and on the 31st of May in Australia.

[promo title=”Elder Scrolls Online (PS4 and Xbox One)“][/promo]

Elder_Scrolls_Online_PS4

Last on our list is Elder Scrolls Online, Zenimax and Bethesda’s so far successful MMORPG. ESO has been recently launched on the PC, and reviewers proved to be generous with the game. The next step for the huge MMORPG is its launch on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. From what we’ve seen, the game is optimized perfectly to run well on these console, providing owners of the PS4 and Xbox One with some much needed content, especially since there aren’t exactly many MMORPGs that can be played on consoles as of yet. Elder Scrolls Online’s skill-based combat seems to be tailored with a port in mind, and Bethesda has promised to work extensively on developing a customized control and user interface for the console versions, which explains the delayed launch.

Unless it’s pushed back, Elder Scrolls Online is set to release on consoles sometime in June, but the exact date has not been announced yet.

So there you have it, this is our run-down of the 10 most anticipated games for late spring. Which one of these games are you mostly looking forward to? Or, if your favorite isn’t on the list, please share what you’re anticipating in the comment section below.
