Nintendo producer Yoshiaki Koizumi has confirmed a new Mario title is currently in development – whether it is to be a 3DS or Wii U title is yet to be confirmed, Koizumi simply said “that’s still a secret!“.
However, there’s the possibility the game will appear on both platforms much like Super Smash Bros 4. The confirmation comes from an upcoming feature in Edge magazine, in which Koizumi said:
“I can tell you, though, that we’ve already started approaching our next challenge.”
Despite nothing being said on the game’s availability, EAD Tokyo team leader Kenta Motokura spoke on a possible Wii U release, saying “it might need to make even more use of the GamePad.” Koizumi then goes on to discuss new possible game mechanics:
“There’s still a lot more room for discovery and invention, and we’ll continue to propose new and exciting game mechanics going into the future.”
With an array of new power-ups and gameplay mechanics seen in Super Mario 3D World, it shouldn’t be a surprise if we see further additions in this yet to be named project.
