Nintendo is one of the few companies notorious for not dropping prices on their own games. Along with publisher Atlus, Nintendo’s games tend to remain at the initial release-price, even several month’s after the game has been on shelves. However, the Japanese console manufacturer and game developer will be dropping prices for some of the Nintendo 3DS’s best-selling titles.
Starting on April 22, five of Nintendo’s own 3DS titles will be permanently discounted by $10 for both their physical and 3DS eShop versions. Nintendo 3DS owners will be able to purchase Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Mario Kart 7, New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario 3D Land each for $29.99, compared to the original price of $39.99.
With Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D being the exception, the other four titles are all within the top 5 best-selling Nintendo 3DS titles worldwide. The top spot belongs to Pokemon X/Y, with both versions selling over 11 million units across the globe. The five listed titles above have collectively sold over 22 million copies, with each one individually selling more than 2 million in the US.
As an added bonus, they may be hard to find by this point, but two special edition Nintendo handhelds are available. To commemorate the recent North American release of Disney Magical World, a “Peach Pink” Nintendo 2DS bundle was available for pre-order through GameStop. Walmart was also carrying their own special edition handheld, with the “Mickey Edition 3DS XL“. If you’re lucky enough to find either of these, both special edition handhelds sell for their original list prices of $129.99 and $199.99
