The latest issue of the Halo comic may have revealed more plot details regarding Halo for Xbox One, more commonly referred to as Halo 5. A description of the comic from CBR (Comic Book Resources) reads as follows:
The Master Chief returns in “The Next 72 Hours: Part 1”! After defeating the Didact, John-117 joined the crew of Infinity . . . but why did he leave? The mystery begins here. Halo® lead writer Brian Reed (Amazing Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel) reveals the secret events that immediately follow the end of Halo 4.
This info suggests that the Didact was not killed during the conclusion of Halo 4 but merely ‘defeated’, suggesting he may return at a later date. Master Chief was shown joining the Infinity space ship at the end of the game and his armor was removed (and you see part of his face if you complete the game on Legendary difficulty). This means that the events of the comics are 72 hours after the events of Halo 4, meaning Halo 5 will continue right after this and Master Chief suddenly leaves on a mission of his own. The UNSC also denies the existence of the Didact for unknown reasons and Master Chief’s mission is kept a secret, two details which may be revealed during Halo 5.
From all this we can assume that Halo 5 continues not long after Halo 4, so fans won’t have to worry too much about time skips or missing information. Microsoft’s Phil Spencer previously mentioned that “Halo 5 will be the headline game at Microsoft’s press conference at E3″, confirming the game’s appearance at this year’s conference. Hopefully we can also expect a release date, either for this year or early next year. Halo 5 will be a Xbox One exclusive and was confirmed during E3 2013 to run at 60fps.
