Halo 5: Guardians was announced last week by 343 Industries, slated for a fall 2015 release on Xbox One, alongside the Halo TV series. Halo 5 will follow right after the events of Halo 4 and take Master Chief on an all new journey, with enhanced visuals and 60fps presentation. The ‘Halo Journey’ will begin this year, potentially with the release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which could be announced at E3 2014.
The Guardian interviewed Bonnie Ross of 343 Industries to discover more details about the upcoming FPS. In the talk, Ross again mentions the ‘journey’ with this statement regarding Master Chief:
“For us this is a really interesting point. For the first time he’s questioning everything he’s done for the UNSC in the past. Just as with past titles, we’re being really open about the fact that we want to tell this story over more than one game – this is about Master Chief’s journey: it’s about his past and his future.”
After the events of Halo 4, where he went through a more personal battle than in previous games, Master Chief is likely changed in a really dynamic way. From this statement we can infer that Halo 5 is only the beginning of this new journey and we’ll definitely see more Halo sequels on Xbox One. Ross also comments on what Halo 4 meant for 343 and what they can do with the new game:
“We learned a ton from Halo 4, and having the abilities we have with Xbox One… it has opened up doors on things we could never have done before. We’re very excited but we can’t talk about any of it.
For us, it’s almost a blank canvas. What are the stories we want to tell, how do we want to tell them, how do we use Halo to push the new platform?”
Halo has always been a signature title for Xbox platforms, ever since Halo: Combat Evolved on the original Xbox. 343 Industries definitely has their work cut out for them in regards to showing the true power of the Xbox One with a Halo title. We can only speculate for the moment on what will be in the new game, but we certainly can’t wait for more information.
