Don’t like that PSN ID you made for yourself years ago? If you want to play Destiny, you better get used to it.
Bungie answered the question of how players can name their guardian in Destiny (via DualShockers). The answer won’t please many PlayStation owners.
You are your character in Destiny. In your case, your Guardian will be named F12. If you want your name to be more colorful or personal (i.e. NinjaSniper420, Titan Nick, Robert Paulson) you need to change your identity at the source. Our hope is that you have an identity in the game that’s meaningful to you, and that new friends can track you from your favorite Destiny forum to a rendezvous in orbit over your favorite destination.
It’s a pain for a gamer on either console, but at least Xbox owners can change their name for a fee of $10. PlayStation owners have been stuck with their IDs since inception.
Creating an account just for the game is an option, but then you would have to deal with twice the headache of managing friend lists and having to log in to separate accounts. Plus, you don’t want people thinking you’re touching a PlayStation controller for the first time.
It’d be nice to see Sony have an option to change the ID for a fee, but it doesn’t seem likely.
