It comes to no surprise that for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, NHL 15 is going to be revamping the character models. With the next-gen graphics being available on these consoles, it would be silly to do anything otherwise. The important thing we need to take out of this is what is implemented and not the overarching theme of “new graphics”.
These characters are going to be more believable. When you have the graphics capabilities, it’s easier to put more details in the people you have on the ice. EA Canada is doing the next best thing by making the jerseys and body shapes more reactive to the environment around them. The “dynamic cloth” allows the jersey to act as a real jersey should, reacting to the body type it’s on as well as when playing on the ice. They’re also looking into making realistic facial expressions, whether it be a player after a hard hit to a player just scoring the game winning goal. Both of these are implemented into the new facial recognition software. This well help the game feel a little more realistic and ultimately allow you to give characters there own personal touch.
The player contours are going to have a little more realism to them as well. You can’t make these players look like blobs, they have to have shape. Judging by the image featured at the top of this article, it’s safe to say there’s a clear difference when making player body types. When EA Canada goes above and beyond in order to get players looking like they should, it’ll potentially forgive the game play that gamers always seem to have problems with (at least in my experience).
