If you owned a PS3 during the last generation of consoles, you likely did not get to experience The Witcher or The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. With The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, the franchise is likely to get a lot of newcomers who may be wary because they are not caught up with the story from the previous entries. Developer CD Projekt RED recognizes this and plans to create some sort of summary for new players.
In an interview with PlayStation LifeStyle, lead designer Miles Tost said:
You don’t need to know the previous games to have fun right off the bat. Still, we will definitely prepare some sort of a recap so that everyone who wants to get up to speed can do it.
There were no specifics as to what this recap would encompass, but if you were worried about jumping into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with no background, it sounds like CD Projekt RED has you covered.
