With only a day to go before the launch of the Destiny beta, Bungie has released the Destiny Companion app for mobile devices. The app is meant to be a tool for players to better navigate and enjoy their Destiny experience.
Instead of creating a new app, Bungie has instead introduced the app as an upgrade to their preexisting Bungie Mobile app. The app has been renamed Destiny Companion for now (and presumably for good). In addition to the new Destiny Companion features, the app retains its role as a news and account access app for Bungie games.
Destiny Companion has some great features. It allows for full access to characters, including the ability to swap out gear in real time. It also features an Advisor meant to help players navigate through the game’s many worlds, events, and options. Finally, the app has the Grimoire, an encyclopedia of information that players gather as they explore the game.
As the beta has not yet started, there’s very little to see in the Destiny Companion app yet. There are four content areas listed — Legend, Grimoire, Tower Map, and Forums — but so far tapping them leads only to a warning that “You need to create a character in Destiny” to view the content.
