The original Super NES game that started it all; Super Mario Kart, is now available on the US Wii U Virtual Console at a price of $7.99, taking up just 69.4MB. Typically, the eShop is updated each Thursday, so this is seemingly a one-off surprise, one that should be welcomed with open arms as the game is absolutely worth playing if you haven’t already.
Released back in 1992, Super Mario Kart was a massive success, and is best known for making the Mario Kart franchise what it is today. It has game modes which are still present in the series today, including Grand Prix and Time Trial as well as features you might recognize such as having to beat the initial Mushroom, Flower, and Star Cups to unlock additional cups.
An array of items and weapons are available to increase your chances of getting first place, more notably the Green Shell, Red Shell, Banana Peel, Mushroom, Lightning Bolt, among others. A total of eight characters are playable such as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Donkey Kong Jr., Toad, and finally Koopa Troopa.
Super Mario Kart is a must-play for any gamer, especially for those who haven’t touched it yet – it’s also a chance to relive a classic once again.
