Rainbow Road ranks among the top Mario Kart tracks of all time on several online Top 10 lists. Some would argue that the version featured in Mario Kart 64 is the best iteration. Regardless of opinions, the classic Rainbow Road 64 track is coming back for the upcoming Mario Kart 8.
Mario Kart 8 is the next ambitious racing title from Nintendo, and will release for the Wii U on May 30. The new installment in the long-running racing series features looping and bending tracks that defy gravity, and brings new vehicles and underwater segments into the crazy fast-paced mayhem. A new trailer was released earlier this week, showing new gameplay and tracks. For the first time in the Mario Kart series, the cloud-riding Koopa Lakitu will be a playable character. As shown in the trailer, some of the new weapons and items include a boomerang, and a Banzai Bill that charges through the course, attacking anything within its path. The classic freeway course from Mario Kart 64, Toad’s Turnpike will return, but this nostalgic course has been featured briefly in past trailers. However, this new trailer reveals yet another Mario Kart 64 course available for play- Rainbow Road:
The iconic Rainbow Road course from Mario Kart 64 may look a little different from its old-school counterpart, but the nostalgic track has received an HD overhaul, along with some bending turn variations and aerial elements to fit with the rest of Mario Kart 8. The next chapter of the Mario Kart saga will release for the Wii U on May 30.
