The National Republican Senatorial Committee, the campaign branch of United States Senate Republicans, has just released their own video game. At first glance, one would think this was a joke, but no, this is for real.
In the game, aptly named Giopi: 2014 Mission Majority, gamers play as an elephant (the mascot of the United States Republican Party) cleverly named “Giopi”. Giopi’s main mission is to stomp on “Taxers” and “Mudslingers”, all while helping the NRSC win back the United States Senate. Mission Majority is an 8-bit browser-based platformer.

Mission Majority Gameplay
The NRSC has stated the primary reason for the creation of Mission Majority is to raise awareness for 2014’s Republican Senate candidates. They had the following to say about the game:
“This year’s Republican Senate candidates are the strongest in decades (if not ever), and we want to raise awareness in every possible way, with that in mind, we are having a bit of fun with our approach.”
As expected, Mission Majority is, to put it bluntly, objectively terrible. NRSC spokesman, Brad Dayspring, has stated that the game was fairly inexpensive to develop. However, they are hoping to bring in some positive revenue because of the project.
In an interview with The Weekly Standard, he had this to say on the matter:
“It wasn’t terribly expensive, the game will ultimately be revenue positive. It’s going to generate revenue (especially when the merchandizing is factored in).”
In truth, the game is an attempt to procure contact information for use in future campaigns. Individuals who want to play the game have to login to the site with either their Facebook, Google+ account, or personal email, so be wary if you decide to play the game. You might get some unwanted contact from the NRSC.
