An image from the English version of the upcoming new Smash Bros game has revealed that you will be able to use your Nintendo 3DS as a controller on the Wii U version. The image shows off the Wii U and 3DS connectivity and a message reads stating ‘You can exchange custom fighters or use your Nintendo 3DS as a Wii U controller’ . Along with the 3DS controller functionality, the ability to transfer custom fighters includes things unlocked from the new 3DS exclusive ‘Smash Run’ mode.

The ability to use a 3DS as a controller on the Wii U is a great addition to the already large list of controllers usable for the upcoming fighter. Included in that list is the ability to use Gamecube controllers, which may end up being the most popular choice among gamers.

Super Smash Bros just launched in Japan, but Americans and Europeans will have to wait until October 3rd to get their hands on the new game on Nintendo 3DS. If you’re in the US and struggling to wait, the announcement of a 3DS demo for North America may help you with the long wait.

Will you be using the 3DS as a controller on Smash Bros Wii U when it launches? What do you think of the addition? Let me know in the comments section below.
