Bungie are considering Raid matchmaking for future Destiny patches

Community manager of Destiny admits that they’re considering Raid matchmaking

In a recent Bungie weekly update Destiny’s community manager Deej talked about the possibility of Raid matchmaking. Raids are the hardest part of Destiny’s endgame where teams of 6 players who know each other and are at least level 26 go through a length and seriously difficult mission without guidance.

Currently the only Raid in Destiny is the Vault of Glass and by adding Raid matchmaking, more players would be able to take part. While Deej admits that while Bungie are considering the possibility of adding matchmaking, it may not happen because it doesn’t click with Bungies vision for what they want Raids to be:

Do you think that you and a team of strangers could beat Vault of Glass with a team from a Raid Matchmaking?

Do you think that you and a team of strangers could beat Vault of Glass?

The Raid was designed for solid teams of killers who have made a commitment to solve a dense and explosive riddle. Most of the raiding parties who have emerged victorious from the Vault of Glass have sworn that one weak link would have doomed their chain. There have been other stories, of course. We’ve heard tell of Guardians who met each other just outside the door that leads into that vault. Strange tales have reached our ears – tales of total strangers who have banded together to see the Raid all the way through to a triumphant finale.

Those stories surprise us, but the players of our games always have. The best I can do to answer your question is to let you know that you’ve been heard. We’re having conversations about how Matchmaking might support the more challenging activities in Destiny. It’s a start. Keep sounding off about it, and maybe someday some matchmade Fireteam mates will hear you, too.

While allowing anyone to play Raids through matchmaking would make them more available, anyone whose played Strikes will know how annoying it is when someone disconnects when things get a little difficult.

That along with the fact that Bungie seem to think that random teams of players are less likely to complete the Raids compared to teams who know each other. Despite this though Deej has admitted that they know of players who have beaten Vault of Glass with strangers simply by messaging each other so surely Raid matchmaking would work, clearly the fan-base wants it.
