The newly released Google Talk (also known as Gtalk) , an IM service that includes both text and voice communication options, seems to be rising in popularity with each passing day. To help you familiarize yourself with this new piece of software we’ve prepared a short list of features that this application contains.
Smartphone support
Google Talk does not restrict itself to your personal computers only. Are can install it on your phone and you always be in reach for other people that use this service. Currently, it only supports Android and iOS operating systems, though. You can install Gtalk on your phone either using the version on your PC or you can do so via Google Play. The choice is yours.
DND= Idle mode
There are times in each person’s life when this person does not wish to be disturbed, be it a business or a personal matter. When this time comes, you can enter the Do Not Disturb mode through the idle mode in your Gtalk. This results in your icon turning orange, indicating that you haven’t used your Google talk for more than 15 minutes. This icon is visible to all your contacts. This option serves to replace the invisible mode, which is not included in this particular app. You can also add a personal touch to this mode by writing something like “having a business meeting right now”, just adding “busy” or anything else you might think of.
Customize the way your Gtalk looks!
If you are getting bored of seeing the same screen over and over again, you can always change the way your app looks by installing a new theme for it. You can download a variety of themes from various web sites on the internet.
Make it easier to call and message your most popular contacts
You do not have to enter the Gtalk application every time you want to contact a specific person that you know. All you have to do is just create a new shortcut on your desktop and insert gtalk:chat?jid=username@gmail.com, where the username is your friend’s or colleague’s ID. It is really that simple.
You don’t even have to download and install Google talk to use it
If you are like me and have a number of different gadgets and devices at your disposal, it can be somewhat annoying to install the same app on all of them. Luckily, you don’t have to do that in case of Gtalk. You will only need to bookmark a certain link (which you can find out in the tutorial or elsewhere on the internet). Then, you need to click this link and you will be redirected to gadget mode.
Create your own chat rooms
Having your own chat room can feel very good. It is very simple to do, too. Check your list of contacts and click on the “+” button. There should be a party chat option that will serve as a start for your own chat room on Google Talk.
