Counter-Strike Invitational Announced for X Games Aspen

Detailed in a press release that was recent yesterday, global eSports leader, Major League Gaming (MLG) has announced that it’ll be partnering up with ESPN X Games to bring eSports to X games Aspen for the very first time, with a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) Invitational taking to be taking place early next year in Aspen, Colorado.

The invitational, which follows a sold-out debut at X Games Austin back in June, will kick off on Friday, January 23rd through to Sunday, January 25th, and it’ll be broadcasted live on MLG.tv, with highlights to be aired on ESPN, ABC and X Games digital and social platforms.

According to the press release, MLG will be introducing new elite players to take the X Games stage as the world’s top Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams compete for X Games medals.

2014 was a breakout year for eSports with the first ever MLG tournament at X Games Austin, millions watching competition on MLG.tv, and more than 71 million people competing in or watching eSports events around the globe,” said MLG’s co-founder and CEO Sundance DiGiovanni in the press release.

Our X Games debut was such a success we knew we had to continue the tradition. The MLG X Games Aspen Invitational will further elevate eSports placing our top competitors amongst the best winter athletes in the world and continues to solidify MLG.tv as the leading destination for premium eSports programming.

The MLG X Games Aspen Invitation itself will feature  the world’s top eight CS:GO teams from both North America and Europe. Leading up to this event, MLG will be hosting online qualifiers via MLG.tv to determine who the competing teams will be.

Even though the action will be aired live, you’ll have to buy premium passes if you wish to watch said action in person. These passes also include reserved seating, a behind-the-scenes tour, a goodie bag full of MLG merchandise, and more. You can buy these passes via MLG.tv for $100. We’ll bring you more news on this should further information reach our ears.
