Respawn Entertainment confirmed that Apex Legends will switch its PC anticheat system to EA Javelin Anticheat on September 29, 2026. The change replaces Easy Anti-Cheat from Epic Games, and Respawn thanked the Easy Anti-Cheat team for a long partnership. The announcement was published on September 24, 2026, giving players notice before the update goes live.

How the September 29 Migration Works

When the feature goes live on September 29, PC players will be prompted to download a game update. After the update completes, launching Apex Legends automatically migrates the player to EA Javelin Anticheat. Unlike some EA titles that use the solution, Apex Legends does not require players to enable secure boot in their PC BIOS menus at this time. Players download, install, launch, and play. The process is automatic once the game update is installed.

Why Respawn Is Making the Switch

Respawn said moving to EA Javelin Anticheat gives its anticheat teams greater visibility into emerging threats and more flexibility to develop and improve detections as cheating evolves. The announcement says the switch aligns with the studio’s priority to maintain competitive integrity in Apex games. EA Javelin Anticheat is a PC anticheat solution designed to ensure fair play in EA games by preventing and detecting cheating while focusing on privacy and security. The goal is a level playing field where results, progression, and success are determined by merit. On titles that already use EA Javelin Anticheat, the solution has prevented millions of cheating attempts while maintaining an accuracy rate of over 99 percent.

Console Integrity and Broader Anti-Cheat Efforts

On console, the update highlights the PC protection layer but maintaining game integrity is a multi-platform priority. EA continues to invest in specialized data models and server-side detection methods targeting console-specific cheats. Bringing anticheat engineering, telemetry, and data capabilities together in-house gives EA’s teams a faster way to detect and respond to cheating across platforms. Console players are not part of the September 29 switch. The PC anticheat change is separate from recent live game events such as the Street Fighter 6 crossover. The move also arrives after the anti-cheat team suspended 258 Predator players for account sharing.
