In October, Riot held its League of Legends World Championship and it brought it a total of 27 million viewers for its final game between “Star Horn Royal Club” and “Samsung Galaxy White”. This is down 16% from last year which had a total of 32 million viewers tuning in for the finals. Though other statistics from the Championships were on a rise this year with the highest amount of viewers at once peaking at 11.2 million (up from 8.7 million last year) and the average online view-time increasing to 67 minutes (up from 42 minutes last year).
Riot also revealed other statistics from the Championships including a total of 288 million daily unique impressions, 179 million hours of the games watched online which is 265% increase from the previous year of a total of 70 million hours being watched. Over 40,000 fans were also present at the event held in Seoul.
When compared to Valve’s DOTA 2’s “The International 2014” held in July, those games brought in 20 million unique viewers (League of Legends: 27 million) and the DOTA 2’s peak was at 2 million users which is a drastic difference from League of Legend’s 11.2 million viewers.
