In a weekend update, the VR co-op dungeon crawler Ancient Dungeon has added direct support for Valve’s Steam Frame, according to the official Steam news post. The game was already listed on the Great on Frame page, but now the developers have implemented native compatibility, marking a significant step for the upcoming VR hardware. The news was reported by Gamingonlinux.
This update arrives as the Steam Frame’s release date and price are still unannounced, but the growing list of compatible titles—now at 89 games—suggests Valve is preparing for a launch. For players, this means Ancient Dungeon will be ready to play on the new device from day one, with all its features intact.
What’s New in the Update
The update primarily focuses on bug fixes, as noted in the Steam announcement. While specific fixes weren’t detailed, the addition of Steam Frame support is the headline feature. This makes Ancient Dungeon one of the first VR titles to officially support the hardware, which is still in the pre-release phase.
The game itself is a fast-paced dungeon roguelite built exclusively for VR, featuring physics-based combat where players can feel every swing and throw. It supports online co-op for up to four players, with cross-platform play with Meta Quest. The game is currently in Early Access, so it’s not finished, but it’s already packed with content.
Ancient Dungeon’s Feature-Rich Roguelite Experience
Beyond the new hardware support, Ancient Dungeon offers a deep roguelite experience. Players can explore procedurally generated dungeons, encounter over 70 unique enemies, 11 bosses, and collect 150+ relics. The progression system is rich, with hundreds of combinations, and includes a permanent progression system via Bestiary, Item Compendiums, and Lore Entries.
Movement options are flexible—players can walk, teleport, or even swing like a monkey. The game also allows unlocking new floors and mini encounters for variety, and tracks monster kills, stats, and trophies. Mod support is included, and the developers are constantly updating the game with new content.
Steam Frame’s Growing Library
The Great on Frame page now lists 89 games ready for the Steam Frame, according to the Steam news post. This is a notable increase, indicating that developers are actively preparing for the hardware’s release. However, Valve has not yet announced a release date or price for the Steam Frame, leaving the VR community in anticipation.
For Ancient Dungeon players, this update ensures that the game will be compatible with the Steam Frame when it launches, offering a seamless experience on the new hardware. The game’s developer, Eric Thullen, continues to support the title with regular updates, and this Steam Frame integration is a testament to that commitment.
As the Steam Frame’s launch approaches, more games are likely to join the list, but Ancient Dungeon is now among the early adopters, ready to showcase what VR gaming can be on Valve’s new device.
