Playstation Plus provides many perks for gamers; it allows access to the Playstation 4’s online multiplayer suites, provides 3 GB of cloud storage and gives gamers plenty of discounts on the Playstation Store. The crown jewel of the subscription service is the Instant Games Collection which is by far the most valuable part of the offering. For the month of January Sony is bringing six games to the table. Here is the cash value of each of the titles:
Infamous: First Light
Fetch’s standalone DLC is the most talked about title on the service this month due to the extremely high production values which touts incredible visuals and excellent gameplay. First Light is available on the Playstation Store for $14.99/£11.99. The game is also available physically at major retailers for the RRP price for around $25/£15 but since the downloadable option is the cheapest we be using that version for the grand total instead.
The Swapper
The Swapper is one of the rare triple cross-buy titles to grace Playstation hardware, for those that do not understand Sony lingo this means that the game is available on the PS4, PS3 and PS Vita. The Swapper is not available as a physical copy and is only available digitally. The puzzle-platformer will set gamers back $5.49/£11.99. (By the way the currencies are in the correct order; Britons have to pay over three times the amount Americans do for the puzzler)
Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition
Duke Nukem’s adventure on the PS3 and PS Vita is another download only title which is only available from the Playstation Store (also on Steam). Duke Nukem was leaked on the Playstation Store before Delvover Digital originally wanted the public to try it out. From there we found out that the first-person-shooter will cost $9.99/£7.99.
Woah Dave!
The quirkiest indie of the month is also the cheapest title of the month. The game developed by one man only costs $4.99/£3.29 on the PS Vita and PS4. The 2D retro arcade title is only available digitally.
Ducktales Remastered
Scrooge McDuck’s HD remake is one of the most expensive titles this month, which is fitting seeing that Scrooge is all about the gold. The Disney game costs $14.99/£11.99.
Prototype 2
Activision’s superhuman sequel is available both at retail and digitally. Now the game would very easily be the most expensive title on the Instant Games Collection this month if you counted the extortionate Playstation Store prices of $39.99/£39.99, but since any intelligent buyer could easily fetch this game from a bargain bin we will list the price as $14.99/£9.99. This price point has been made after looking at several retailers in addition to auction sites.
Grand Total
In total the offering of the instant games collection for the month of January is worth $65.44/£57.24. This certainly is not the service’s best month but considering that the annual cost of the service is only £39.99/$49.99 this still is a great deal.
