During today’s Nintendo Direct, the japanese gaming company announced that their latest portable console, the New 3DS XL would be coming to North America on February 13th. You can read about that announcement as well as some of the new features the console has to offer here at gamerheadlines.com; however, some more strange news was also announced.
Nintendo went on to reveal the fact that there would be no charger included with the New 3DS XL. This is not the first time Nintendo has done this, and not even the first time for this console since they have been doing the same in New Zealand and Japan since the New 3DS XL launched in those territories late last year, however, it is fairly unprecedented to have a console brought to market in North America without a charger packaged in and could potentially cause some confusion for people who expect their console to be fully functional out of the box. In a response to an inquiry by IGN, Nintendo had this to say about the situation: “New Nintendo 3DS XL uses the same AC adapter as any Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo DSi system. Rather than raise cost of New Nintendo 3DS XL by charging consumers for a component they may already own, we are giving them the option to only buy if they need an AC adapter”. Considering the fact that the new console uses the same adapters as previous DS and 3DS models, consumers will be able to purchase chargers in advance or when they go to pick up their New 3DS XL consoles.
What do you think of this strange announcement? Do you think that this is okay or do you think that every console that is being sold should have to come with an adapter? Let us know your thoughts on the New 3DS XL below.
